Builders skip hire cost: what UK skip firms publish for an 8 yard skip
Updated
An 8 yard builders skip costs £235 at ISM Waste and from £333.35 including VAT at Dunmow Group, the only two of 37 skip, grab and muck-away firms we read that print the price on their own page, on 28 October 2026. Everyone else prices by postcode, waste type and how long the skip stays.
The published prices
ISM Waste lists an 8 yard skip at £235 and Dunmow Group from £333.35 including VAT; the other 35 firms we read publish no price (every row, with its source).
What moves the price
- Waste type
- A skip of clean rubble or soil is cheaper to tip than mixed waste: landfill tax on inert material is £8.65 a tonne from 1 April 2026 against £130.75 at the standard rate.
- Weight
- Heavy loads carry a tonnage allowance, and some firms charge for every tonne over it.
- Placement
- A skip on the road needs a council permit, which the skip firm usually buys and adds to your bill.
- Hire length
- Most prices cover a set number of days; extra days cost more.
Grab lorry instead of a skip
For soil and hardcore a grab lorry is often cheaper per tonne: Dunmow Group lists grab hire from £204 including VAT for hardcore and concrete and from £360 for soil and clay (Dunmow Group, grab hire).
Published figures are what each firm advertises on its own page, read on 28 October 2026; they are not a quote for your site.
